Moving to Chillum for work -advice?

Longtime lurker here, I work in consulting and Crime rate is something to consider -Chillum sits at 506.6 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 4.6%, which is about average. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Is this normal for Chillum? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

The food scene here is average. Tons of great Italian places. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely pretty good and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Sunset for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities
- The job market scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
