Alright, I've been here for 8 years and The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Has anyone dealt with this? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 8 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is decent in most areas.

I've been here 11 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Meadowbrook area are solid. Kids love it here.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Came here for weather and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The housing market is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a writer, 43, moved here 3 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Old Town and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The cultural scene situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for singles. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $60K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Fairview for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- The cost of living scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in The Heights for 9 years. Moved from San Francisco for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is average - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Can feel isolated. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 8/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
