OK so Just moved here 1 months ago and You can expect to pay around $2,750 for rent here. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Any help is appreciated. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Riverside. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Bought a house here in 2018 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The healthcare is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 12 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Oak Park for 10 years. Moved from Chicago for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Can feel isolated. And nightlife can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 9/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
