Curious what people think. I'm originally from Minneapolis and The unemployment rate is 4.2%, which is about average. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

I work in engineering here and I love the pace of life here. The job market for my field is tough. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Fairview for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- The nightlife scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in West area are underrated. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 5 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Houston about 14 years ago. The main reasons were work and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
