Pros and cons of Chula Vista after 15 years
Anyone else feel this way? I'm a 34-year-old physical therapist and It's a a mid-size city city with about 275K people. Poverty rate is 6.9%, which is pretty low. With a population of 275K, Chula Vista is a mid-size city. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much.
Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Lots of new development
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons:
- Hot summers
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Far from major airports
- Homelessness issues downtown
The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.
