Alright, I grew up here but left for a while. The median home value here is around $236,000, which is actually reasonable. It's a a smaller city city with about 83,223 people. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Anyone in a similar situation? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. I have mixed feelings honestly. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 8 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much wild but now it's decent.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.
