Housing in Cicero compared to Atlanta

Been meaning to ask this. Homes are going for about $236,000 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Cicero sits at 317.5 per 100K. Rent is about $1,121/month for a decent place. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. Has anyone dealt with this? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Salt Lake City it's average.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Highland for 4 years. Moved from Raleigh for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is tough - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Dating scene is rough. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 8/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The walkability is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 15 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been here 11 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into running, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Portland about 6 years ago. The main reasons were weather and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is challenging.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Happy to answer more specific questions..
