Is it worth buying in Cicero?

First post here. The median home value here is around $236,000, which is actually reasonable. Crime rate is something to consider -Cicero sits at 317.5 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $1,121 for rent here. Homes are going for about $236,000 on average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Low crime in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong sense of community
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Limited dining options
- Few job opportunities in some fields
Am I wrong here? The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. the quality of life is solid. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

Bought a house here in 2021 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Riverside for 12 years. Moved from Pittsburgh for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is solid - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Riverside schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Homeless population growing downtown. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 6/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 8 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Used to live on the Meadowbrook side, now on the North side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Good luck with whatever you decide..
