Rent vs buy in Cincinnati — what makes sense?

I'm retired and Average temperature is around 57°F, so the weather is moderate. Would love some local perspective.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Fairview. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in legal. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 9 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
