Hi all, I'm originally from Tampa and Poverty rate is 18.4%, which is higher than I expected. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What do you all think? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

I've lived in Eastside for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- The healthcare scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions
- The outdoor recreation scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Hope this helps!.

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Riverside. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in retail. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a electrician, 57, moved here 12 years ago from Denver. I've lived in South and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The nightlife situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for remote workers. tough vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $60K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
