Curious what people think. With a population of 10,813, Citrus is a small town. Crime rate is something to consider -Citrus sits at 226.0 per 100K. Household incomes average around $101,179 in Citrus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Has anyone dealt with this? The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to New York it's better than expected.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in North area are decent. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely average and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Sunset) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- The dating scene scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..
