Longtime lurker here, My family moved here when I was a kid. It's a a small town city with about 9,044 people. The unemployment rate is 3.3%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $1,486 for rent here. Poverty rate is 6.3%, which is pretty low. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. What are your go-to spots? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 2 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The healthcare is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely pretty good and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Sunset) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
