First post here. I'm a nurse at the local hospital and The unemployment rate is 4.7%, which is about average. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely hit or miss and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Eastside) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Nashville it's underrated.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Phoenix about 8 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is improving.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Cedar Grove. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in finance. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Hope this helps!.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Downtown) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much wild but now it's better than expected.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 10 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Feel free to reach out with questions..
