Rent vs buy in Claremont -what makes sense?

Hi all, Rent is about $2,125/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Claremont sits at 139.0 per 100K. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

I've lived in Lakewood for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
- The nightlife scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Urban sprawl is real

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..
