Raising a family in Claremont -thoughts?

First post here. Crime rate is something to consider -Claremont sits at 292.7 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 13,054 people. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Am I overthinking this?

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is decent in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Oak Park. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 30, moved here 7 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Downtown and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The dating scene situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for remote workers. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from San Francisco about 8 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is underrated.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Feel free to reach out with questions..
