There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What are your go-to spots?

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely excellent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Westside) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to New York it's improving.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Minneapolis about 15 years ago. The main reasons were weather and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is decent.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Springfield. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Southern.
No regrets on my end..

I've lived in North for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options
- The cultural scene scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The weather is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
