Considering Clarkesville vs St. Louis -help me decide
Hey folks, Military spouse here. Crime rate is something to consider -Clarkesville sits at 49.2 per 100K. The median home value here is around $198,900, which is actually reasonable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Should I be concerned? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 14 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is tough.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Came here for family and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The weather is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. dating scene used to be much growing but now it's hit or miss.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Boston it's challenging.
