Anyone else feel this way? I'm a 44-year-old social worker and Rent is about $2,298/month for a decent place. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. Anyone in a similar situation? Thanks in advance!

I've lived in Greenfield for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The safety scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Highland) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Greenfield. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in education. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 10 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
