Longtime lurker here, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Homes are going for about $114,600 on average. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Does this match your experience?

Bought a house here in 2019 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from San Francisco about 4 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a lawyer, 31, moved here 1 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Westside and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The job market situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for retirees. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
