Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Seattle about 10 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is better than expected.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. No regrets on my end..

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is cost of living. Other than that, Hope this helps!.

The food scene here is average. Tons of great craft beer places. I genuinely enjoy living here.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is excellent in most areas.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Midtown. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Springfield. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in education. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
