Came here for retirement and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The pet-friendliness is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is school system. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've been in Westside for 14 years. Moved from San Diego for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is decent - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And cost of living can be frustrating.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 6 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is decent.
