Alright, We're a young couple and Crime rate is something to consider -Claysburg sits at 39.2 per 100K. Poverty rate is 10.6%, which is around average. Homes are going for about $146,300 on average. With a population of 1,120, Claysburg is a small town. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. Should I be concerned? The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in East. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in tech. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Maple Ridge. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in marketing. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like sushi.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Bought a house here in 2024 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in The Heights for 9 years. Moved from Boston for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is average - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Road conditions need improvement. And cultural scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 9/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
