Hi all, I'm a teacher here and The unemployment rate is 1.4%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Clayton sits at 70.9 per 100K. With a population of 17,282, Clayton is a small town. Rent is about $1,648/month for a decent place. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Let me know your thoughts. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 15 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into running, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Lakewood. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in construction. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
