OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Fairview. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 3 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Charlotte about 14 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is tough.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
