I'm a college student here and Poverty rate is 8.1%, which is pretty low. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What are your go-to spots? TIA! The suburbs are where most families end up.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 4 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Portland about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is excellent.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..
