Thinking about relocating to Cleveland from Kansas City

OK so Military spouse here. Poverty rate is 13.0%, which is around average. Median household income is $55,904, which feels about average for the area. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. What would you do? The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 40, moved here 7 years ago from New York. I've lived in Lakewood and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Affordable housing options
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The food scene situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for retirees. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $100K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The community vibe is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely tough and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (South) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
