Not sure if this has been asked before, but The suburbs are where most families end up. Am I wrong here? Appreciate any input.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Baltimore about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Eastside) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Eastside) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Hope this helps!.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
