Just moved to Clovis, any tips?

Hey everyone, Military spouse here. Median household income is $54,029, which feels on the lower side for the area. With a population of 38,153, Clovis is a smaller city. Crime rate is something to consider -Clovis sits at 673.8 per 100K. Average temperature is around 59--F, so the weather is moderate. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Let me know your thoughts. Cheers. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Used to live on the South side, now on the Greenfield side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely tough and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (West) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Old Town area are solid. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 39, moved here 5 years ago from Denver. I've lived in West and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The outdoor recreation situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for singles. solid vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to San Diego it's average.

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much wild but now it's better than expected.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.
