OK so Born and raised here. You can expect to pay around $649 for rent here. Median household income is $30,756, which feels on the lower side for the area. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Appreciate any input. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 3 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I've lived in East for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
- The outdoor recreation scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited high-paying job options

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Old Town. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in education. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Korean.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Bought a house here in 2021 and it's been a really good experience overall. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
