Anyone else feel this way? Crime rate is something to consider -Cohoes sits at 221.3 per 100K. Median household income is $62,111, which feels about average for the area. Poverty rate is 20.4%, which is higher than I expected. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Has anyone dealt with this? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a nurse, 58, moved here 7 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Midtown and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited entertainment options
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The pet-friendliness situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for singles. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in Fairview area are underrated. Kids love it here.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The weather is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Chicago about 9 years ago. The main reasons were school and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Feel free to reach out with questions..
