Housing in Coldspring compared to Austin

First post here. Rent is about $780/month for a decent place. What do you all think?

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Westside area are challenging. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from New York about 8 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited public transit options

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is underrated.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Austin it's surprisingly good.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Highland. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in real estate. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
