Housing in Colfax compared to Denver

Alright, I'm a teacher here and It's a a small town city with about 2,785 people. Poverty rate is 9.0%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $246,300, which is actually reasonable. Crime rate is something to consider -Colfax sits at 105.0 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Growing food scene
- Close to nature
- Good internet infrastructure
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Hot summers
- Sprawl everywhere
- Not very walkable
- Few job opportunities in some fields
It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Used to live on the Pine Hills side, now on the Eastside side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

Came here for work and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The traffic is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 9 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Lakewood. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
