Random thought, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and It's a a small town city with about 8,862 people. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. What do you all think? The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Bought a house here in 2016 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone about the same since then.

I've lived in Fairview for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good airport with direct flights
- The pet-friendliness scene is improving
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in East. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in tech. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a real estate agent, 44, moved here 12 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Westside and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The school system situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for families. solid vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $90K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in North. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in real estate. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 12 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

I work in education here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is better than expected. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
