Hey folks, Poverty rate is 9.4%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $65,170, which feels about average for the area. You can expect to pay around $979 for rent here. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Am I overthinking this? The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is outdoor recreation. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Raleigh it's excellent.

I've lived in The Heights for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- The school system scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Oak Park. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
