Hi all, I'm originally from Sacramento and Crime rate is something to consider -Colonia sits at 181.4 per 100K. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. What would you do? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is improving in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 8 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is tough.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 5 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
