I'm a college student here and Household incomes average around $64,488 in Columbia. The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. TIA! The city has invested a lot in new development.

I work in retail here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is decent. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Bought a house here in 2015 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in West area are improving. Kids love it here.

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The food scene is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Old Town for 10 years. Moved from New York for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is solid - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Limited shopping options. And walkability can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 7/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Came here for weather and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The public transit is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
