What surprised you most about Columbia?

Crime rate is something to consider — Columbia sits at 775.1 per 100K. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Should I be concerned? It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Denver about 13 years ago. The main reasons were family and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is underrated.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. No regrets on my end..
