What's it really like living in Columbia?

Hi all, I'm a 42-year-old data analyst and Median household income is $55,653, which feels about average for the area. The median home value here is around $243,500, which is actually reasonable. Poverty rate is 15.0%, which is around average. Rent is about $1,158/month for a decent place. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Does this match your experience? Thanks! Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much wild but now it's better than expected.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Dallas it's improving.

I've lived in East for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good internet infrastructure
- The walkability scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Westside. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Hope this helps!.
