Biggest downsides of living in Columbine?

Hey folks, I'm a remote worker and Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. The median home value here is around $590,600, which is pretty steep. With a population of 25,681, Columbine is a smaller city. The unemployment rate is 2.4%, which is pretty low. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I've lived in East for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Decent public transit for the size
- The cost of living scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Greenfield for 7 years. Moved from Pittsburgh for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
construction is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not a lot of cultural diversity. Limited shopping options. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 26, moved here 9 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Old Town and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Strong sense of community
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Limited shopping options
3. The pet-friendliness situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for singles. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $80K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

The food scene here is decent. Tons of great Southern places. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from San Diego about 13 years ago. The main reasons were weather and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are pricey, gas is underrated.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 4 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- The safety scene is tough

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely improving and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Uptown) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Seattle about 8 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are developing, gas is excellent.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely solid and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Eastside) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
