OK so The median home value here is around $590,600, which is pretty steep. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Let me know your thoughts. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

I work in construction here and I love the pace of life here. The job market for my field is excellent. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 7 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Oak Park. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in construction. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Moved here from San Diego about 7 years ago. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Still getting used to outdoor recreation but Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
