Life in Columbus as a young professional

Hello, Just moved here 1 months ago and Household incomes average around $56,622 in Columbus. It's a a mid-size city city with about 204K people. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Thoughts? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 4 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely pretty good and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
