OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Maple Ridge. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in legal. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in South area are solid. Kids love it here.

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much established but now it's solid.

I'm a sales manager and I've found I love the pace of life here. The community is improving and there's always something going on.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely excellent and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (West) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely underrated and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (West) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely average and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Riverside) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
