Remote worker thinking about Columbus

Rent is about $1,002/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 60--F, so the weather is moderate. Crime rate is something to consider -Columbus sits at 100.5 per 100K. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cheers. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Cedar Grove. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in tech. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Eastside) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The safety is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Old Town. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Hope this helps!.

I've lived in West for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good internet infrastructure
- The community vibe scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 39, moved here 5 years ago from New York. I've lived in Uptown and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The safety situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for couples. decent vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $70K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
