What's it really like living in Columbus?

I work in construction and Crime rate is something to consider -Columbus sits at 119.6 per 100K. Median household income is $67,212, which feels about average for the area. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Am I wrong here? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Fairview. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely improving and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Fairview) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
