Housing market in Commack right now

I'm retired and Homes are going for about $647,000 on average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Am I wrong here? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The traffic is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Fairview. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in finance. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 12 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is challenging in most areas.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in North for 8 years. Moved from Boston for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Bugs and humidity in summer. And school system can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Midtown) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
