Why I chose Commack over bigger cities

Been living here since 2019. Poverty rate is 1.7%, which is pretty low. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Has anyone dealt with this? Thanks! Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Lakewood area are challenging. Kids love it here.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is solid in most areas.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Downtown for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The healthcare scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Rising rent and home prices

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 4 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
