Rent vs buy in Commerce -what makes sense?

Hi all, Homes are going for about $583,200 on average. With a population of 12,072, Commerce is a small town. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Any advice would be great.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Charlotte about 6 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is challenging.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Happy to answer more specific questions..
