Been living here since 2019. Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. What are your go-to spots? Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Uptown. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in education. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much reasonable but now it's surprisingly good.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely excellent and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (East) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Denver it's solid.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.
