I've lived in Midtown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
- The outdoor recreation scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. No regrets on my end..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want job market, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in Uptown for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights
- The walkability scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely improving and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Fairview) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
