Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Rent is about $881/month for a decent place. It's a a smaller city city with about 26,082 people. Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Any advice would be great. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

I've lived in South for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong sense of community
- The food scene scene is tough
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 5 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. traffic used to be much wild but now it's excellent.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.
